Kagyu Monlam in Malaysia
April 24-26, 2009, report by
Lama Karma Chodrak, helped by Karma Rinchen Zongpo
The 2009 Kagyu
Monlam in Malaysia took place in Karma Kagyu Buddhist Society Johor
Bahru and was jointly organized with the cooperation of Karma Kagyu
Buddhist Society Johor Bahru and Benchen Karma Kamtshang Ling Johor
Bahru together. This Kagyu Monlam has been the second to occur in
Malaysia, and was performed over the course of three days from April
24th to 26th of 2009.
H.E. Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche presided over the Monlam pujas which
were also attended by six rinpoches, several Khenpos, Lamas, monks
and nuns. We had about seventy members of the ordained sangha and
several hundred dharma brothers and sisters from the laity.
Every morning, H.E. Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche transmitted teachings on
Lord Gampopa's Jewel Ornament of Liberation. Every evening, Lama
Sangye Trinley (S.T. Lama) taught dohas, spiritual songs, of
Milarepa and Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche and led the singing of
those dohas. Lama Karma Chodrak, also, was present for the singing
of these dohas and it has been remarked that singing is somewhat
unusual in Asia in the modern day, and people were very much touched
by this practice.
The 2009 Kagyu Monlam in Malaysia has been very well organized, and
which is attributed to the thorough planning of the organizers and
the seamless cooperation among the working teams. All the attendees
have a heartfelt gratitude to these tireless contributors.
